How to Play "Take a Hike"

If you can find a "grassy field" in your neighborhood, take a closer look!

Start by collecting a variety of household objects and place them in a paper sack.  Choose  objects that are different colors,  shapes, textures and sizes.
Some examples include:

button
pencil
sock
cotton ball
string
yearn
sandpaper
paper clip
scotch tape
Also place in your bag, some index cards or a drawing tablet, some crayons, and a magnifying glass.

Now, set out on your neighborhood hike.  Look for objects in nature or in a grassy field that have the same properties as the household items in your bag.  Collect these items, or draw pictures of them on the index cards or in the tablet.
Which items are sticky like the scotch tape?
Which items are soft like the cotton ball?
Which items are scratchy like the sandpaper?
Which items have the same color?
When you get back home, discuss with a friend or with your family the things that you have found. Explain why you chose the things you did.

We would like to hear from you, e-mail us and let us know how you would like to help preserve the prairie.
